Thrift Shop : アメリカの古着屋さん

Do you know the song "Thrift Shop"?  This song has topped the US Billboard charts since a few weeks ago, and I listen it every day.  Macklemore, the singer, sings not about sex or drug but sings literally about "Let's go to thrift shop and get cheaper clothes!".   The lyrics and video are so hilarious, you should check it out! :)

今Billboardで一位の曲でThrift Shopという曲があります。見たまんま「節約の店」ということで「服を古着屋でもっと安く買おうぜ！」というすごく変わった曲です。メロディーはもちろんいいのですが、セックスやドラッグのことを歌わずひたすら古着のことを歌った歌詞がマジで面白いです！
超流行っている曲ですしPVも面白いんで見てみてください(^▽^)



So, because of the Thrift Shop's No.1 on Billboard chart, I want to show you about what American thrift shops are.

American Second hand shop usually has so many clothes like heaven, and finding out the clothes you want spends much time than you think.  Especially suburban ones are really huge, and all sections look chaotic. So you have to be a good hunter like Macklemore in the video :D.

アメリカの古着屋は特に郊外にあるやつは大きくて、やっぱりアメリカらしく一階建ての横にだだーっと広い作りをしています。店内には服がPVの様に大量に置いてあって値段も節約というだけあってかなり安くなっています。代表的なのは上のThrift Shopの曲でも女の子が歌っているGoodwillというチェーン店が有名です。

In America, popular outfits among fashionable younger generations are almost always European classy ones.  Some friendly hipsters mix American casual taste well in many other outfits, but I feel most of fashion people in here just dress like people somewhere in Europe.  In Japan, European classy outfits are always popular but American outfits are too.  We have Kawaii(extremely chaostic cute) culture, and I believe the reason why we like American clothes is that American clothes are well engaged in Kawaii idea.

都内にある小さめのTrhift Shopもぎっしり物が充実していますが日本みたいに古着屋さんによってテイストが異なっています。アメリカ人に人気なのはヨーロピアンな雰囲気のカッチリクラッシーな見た目らしく、 日本だと指示のあるスピンズとかWEGOみたいなアメリカンな可愛いスタイルは男女共に人気じゃないみたいです。

In Portland, the place I live, there is only one thrift shop in downtown called Buffalo Exchange.  But there are more on Hawthorne street where is famous place for second hand shops and fancy restaurants for young people.

One of my favorite shops on Hawthorne street is Red Light .  This shop was selected for best vintage shop in local newspaper.  What they have is American taste chic and fancy clothes.  This place is awesome.

私の住んでるポートランドにはダウンタウンだと若者に人気な古着屋はBuffalo Exchangeくらいしかありませんが、Hawthorne通りという日本の下北みたいな場所まで移動すると結構沢山のThrift ShopやVintage Shopを見つける事ができます。

私の大好きなRed Light は色んな種類のお洋服がありますがほぼ全部にアメリカン〜な雰囲気が統一してあってかなーーーり可愛いです。地元紙ではポートランドでの一番人気のVintage Shopの称号を得ているようです。

These clothes are so cheap and I got these 3 sweaters below all for $29.  If I get this kind of super cute sweaters imposed from American in Japan, I guess they will cost more than triple. Not only thrift shops, but there are also many record shops and fancy restaurants on Hawthorne.  If your are Portlander, so why don't you visit here !

Red Lightのお洋服は全部意味分かんないくらい安くてセーター一枚１５ドル(1400円)とかざらです。日本でそれなりの可愛い輸入されたセーターを買うと３５００円は安い方なのでアメリカで買うと半額以下ですし、やっぱり日本じゃ簡単には手に入らない様な服が沢山おいてあるので、行くとめっちゃテンション上がります。

ちなみにこの３枚を最近Red Lightで購入しましたが合計で$29(2700円)でした。う〜ん消費税もないし最高。

American thrift shop is really fun to go even you are not going to buy anything.  So if you are coming to America, I recommend you to go to thrift shops just for sight seeing.

他にもHawthorne通りには沢山古着屋さん、レコード屋 さんやオシャレなご飯屋さんなどあるんでポートランドに住んでる人なら行くべきです！

あとアメリカの古着屋さんは日本と比較できないくらいでかいので、観光として行ってみても楽しいと思います。普通にアバクロとかGuessとか埋もれてるんでアメリカに来る機会があれば是非行ってみてください〜い(^^)/

         

Clothing at Target : ターゲットのお洋服

I went to Target, the second largest discount store in the US behind Walmart.  Target and Walmart have the pretty same kind of places, but the biggest difference is how fashionable they are.  Target is famous for high designed and high quality clothes, and Walmart is not.  I'd been interested in going there so bad, because many youtubers I like were often saying something like "I got this shirt for $5 at Target!" in their videos.

今週末はずっと行ってみたかった全米でWalmartに次ぐ規模を持つディスカウントストアのTargetに行ってきました！Targetは安くて可愛いお洋服が特に若者には有名で、感覚的には日本のしまむらと同じ様な場所です。

アメリカの大型格安店と言えば日本ではWalmartが有名ですが、TargetはWalmartよりもっと雰囲気のいいオシャレでトレンド重視の場所だと思ってくれればいいです。ちなみに値段は特に変わりません。

ということでTarget行って来たぜ！

Inside of the Target, decorating is all red and many lightnings make the atmosphere clean.  People enjoy their shoppings with starbucks' frappuccinos, and I could smell sweet popcorn everywhere.

And clothes!  All of them are really pretty as their prices, material and quality are really good and easily affordable enough.  If you think you are tired of the cheap and weak clothes like H&M or Forever21, you must come here!  They have sizes from XS and I felt here is much better than other fast fashion unless I am finding very fancy dresses or vintage sweaters.

中はTargetのイメージカラーの赤を基調とした内装になっていて、最初に目についたのはバレンタインカードが沢山置いてある棚でした。どのグリーティングカードも可愛い。

その横にはポートランド定番のスタバがあって、Target内のお客さんはスタバのフラペチーノを飲みながら自由にカートをまわしてお買い物してます。その他にポップコーン屋さんもあってTarget中香ばしいポップコーンの匂いで甘かったです。

さぁそしてお洋服のコーナー！

This kind of stores are always located far from downtown and we don't always have good access. But if you need something good quality for cheap price, you'll not regret to come here! And you'd better go to larger one :).

見た瞬間「おおお！？」っと思ったのが服のクオリティーの良さ。H&MやForever21に慣れた私からすると生地が全くペラくない上にデザインも普通に良かったので軽く感動したのです。しかもなんとなくデザインが日本っぽいのもいい！さすがアメリカ版しまむら笑。個人的には幼少期によく行ったダイエーをすごく思い出しました。

サイズは普通にXSからちゃんと揃えられていて、値段も安いし丈夫そうだし日本に買って帰ってもいいかもと思うものもいくつかありました。想像以上にすごいぞTarget!

あとは他の場所をざーっと見て帰ったぜぇ。普通にダイエーであり普通にイトーヨーカドーであった。おまけにバレンタインの雰囲気とTargetでのフラッシュモブパフォーマンス載せときます〜。ビヨンセのダンスだよ(^ー^)。

　
　　

         

Lady Gaga in Portland : ガガLiveレポートinアメリカ

Me and my friend, Rika, went to Gaga's concert last night.

昨日はお友達のリカとガガのライブに行ってきました！

Our seats were kind of the cheapest ones, $69, but we felt they were good seats regarding the prices.
The opening performer was madeon, DJ, and his music was so good.  It was one of the most exciting times I had last night!

席は３階の下の画像のような景観でした。$69という激安の席でしたが全景の見える席は普通に好きなので大満足でした♬ あと前座のmadeonっていうDJが個人的にツボすぎて家に帰って即調べたらまだティーンエイジャーの美少年だったーーーΣ(´д｀ノ)ノ

Most of the goods in the shops were T-shirts which cost around $40 to $50.  I had believed American people wouldn't buy these goods, but I saw many people were wearing Gaga T-shirts!  I also bought one yeah!

グッズ売り場はTシャツがメインで一枚確か$40から$50まで。一つの売り場が小さいので日本とは違ってこのグッズ販売ブースがホール内の至る所にあって日本みたいに長い行列はみませんでした。

外人はグッズなんて買わないというイメージがなぜかあったんですけど、想像以上にガガT着てるお客さんが多くてびっくりしました。ちなみに私もSサイズのガガTを購入したぜ〜！

Portland is not big town enough to be full at the Rose Quarter even if the performer was Gaga, but I was so happy to sea her in America :D.  I will post some articles about culture shocks I had about Gaga's concert, see you later!

ポートランドはやっぱり人口が追いつかないのか会場のRose Quarterは惜しくも満員にはならなかったのですがお客さんのテンションはいっぱしにアメリカ人なので大盛り上がりで楽しかったです〜。ガガPDXに着てくれてありがとうxxx

記憶がフレッシュな内に色々まとめたかったけれど、ちょっと長くなりそうなので他の記事にガガのコンサートに行った時に受けたカルチャーショックを書きまーす^^。

         

Free Coffee at Seattle's Best Coffee

You can often get free food at American colleges.
Free pizza is the most usual, but also there are free doughnuts, meal, breakfast or pancakes.  The best free food I've ever seen was free Ben and Jerry.  They came to PSU with their small cart with some ice creams.

アメリカの大学ではよくフリーフードが出回ります。
フリーピッツァ、フリードーナツ、フリーミール、フリーブレックファストなどなどです。でもやっぱフリーピッツァが一般的かな。ラッキーだとBen and Jerryも小さなカートにアイスを詰めて学校まで配りに来てくれます。

情報は大学のツイッターや大学の掲示板に張られたりfaecbookで告知されたりと様々。


Portland State University, where I belong, had free coffee at Seattle's Best Coffee all this week.  I went twice and got large free coffees!  I wish there were free foods in Japan too!

私の通っている大学のPSUは今日まで一週間Seattle's Best Coffeeでコーヒーのみ無料販売だったので昨日と今日続けてコーヒーを貰いに並んできました(^v^)。
日本にもこの習慣欲しい！

         

Winter Has Come

In Portland, finally winter has come!  It started raining, and the temperature dropped around 40-50F. 

You might know Portland is famous as a rainy town except summer, but the rain we have is small and there is no wind.  So it's not bad to live in Portland as you imagine :).

ポートランドは先週から雨がやっと降り始めてきました。気温も５度とかに最近いきなり下がって冬が来たー！と実感しております。

Foliage season was the best a few weeks ago, it was very beautiful!
